Salsa Classes for Beginners in London

Everything a first-timer needs to know before their first night at Changó.

It’s the single most common worry we hear — and it’s simply not true. Our Crossbody and Cali Salsa classes break every move down into small, repeatable steps, taught by instructors who teach beginners every single week. You don’t arrive knowing how to dance; you leave your first class already able to.

Most people who walk through the door on a Monday come alone. Classes rotate partners throughout, so you’ll practise with several different people, not just one — and during the social afterwards there’s always someone to dance with. Solo is completely normal here.

Every Monday brings a fresh group of complete beginners to the 7pm Crossbody class — it’s specifically built for people trying salsa for the very first time. You’ll be surrounded by others in exactly the same position as you.

Comfortable clothes you can move in and smooth-soled shoes are all you need — leave the trainers with sticky rubber soles at home. When you arrive, just say it’s your first time; our instructors and regulars will look after you from the moment you walk in.

Every Monday at The Amadeus starts with a Crossbody Salsa class at 7pm, aimed squarely at beginners, followed by a Cali Salsa class at 8pm and social dancing from 9–10.30pm. Come for the 7pm class alone, or stay for the whole night — it’s the easiest way to take your first step into salsa.

Amazing salsa classes led by great teachers. In only 4 weeks in level 1, my partner and I are now able to dance and twirl, really fast learning curve! Looking forward to carry on dancing in level 2 and learning new steps.

FAQ

Frequently
Asked Questions

Everything beginners ask us before their first class at Changó.

More than OK — it’s exactly who our Monday 7pm Crossbody class is built for. Most people in that class are trying salsa for the first time.

Everyone starts there. Our instructors break every move into small steps and teach beginners every week — rhythm comes from repetition, not something you need to arrive with.

No special fitness or flexibility required. Salsa is a great way to get active, but you don’t need to be in shape to start — just comfortable moving for an hour.

No — the 7pm Crossbody class on Monday exists specifically for complete beginners, so you’ll be surrounded by people at exactly your level.

Not at all. Classes rotate partners so you practise with several people, and most people at Changó come solo — you’ll always find someone to dance with.

Comfortable clothing you can move in and smooth-soled shoes work best. Avoid trainers with sticky rubber soles — they make it hard to spin on the dance floor.

Start with Monday. The 7pm Crossbody class is built for beginners and leads straight into social dancing, so it’s the easiest way to learn the basics before trying a bigger Saturday party.
